Registrars Report 2012

Membership in Meath is rising steadily.  The increase in 2012 membership is 27%, compared to an increase of 20% nationwide.

For the first time our total membership has exceeded 3,000, due in no small part to the hard work of club officials, coaches and officers throughout the county.  There is a strict ethos of registering all members, strongly supported by the Chairman.  This ethos will help to give weight to our presence as a major sporting body within the county.  It will also help us push through agendas that are important to us as an Association with extra voting strength at Congress.

As with all sporting organisations, there is a transient membership, particularly in the younger age groups.  The faces change from year to year as juveniles drift from one sport to another, or give up sport altogether.  The challenge to us is to provide programme and environment that encourages them to stay in the sport.

I would like, at this point, to mention Duleek and Rathkenny Athletic Clubs.  Both clubs have grown their membership substantially from a standing start and have been a welcome addition to the county.

Congratulations to Dunboyne on exceeding 500 members this year.  Ratoath are not far behind with 416 in what has been a very busy developmental year for the club.

Finally I would like to thank the Chairman for his support throughout the year.  I’m not sure how he maintains his (mostly) good humour.  I wish him the best of luck in the coming year.  Also thanks to fellow County Officers, and particular thanks to the hardworking club registrars, keep it up!
