Moira Peppard finished 2nd in the national masters W3 200m in a time of 30.89s. at Athlone IT indoor track. Moira had a recent successes at the Leinster championships in the 60m and 200m. David Tobin travelled to Austrian and Hungary with Waterford Institute of Technology. He finished 4th in the long jump at the ASVO Gala at the Ernst Heppel arena in Vienna.
Athlone IT indoor arena has been very busy since it opened in January and the new facility is bringing out the very best in many athletes.Even at this early stage it appears that standards and records will show a marked improvement as it develops. Harry Purcell put in a great effort to finish 4th in the AAI Junior 800m He recorded a very good time of 1m57. The young Trim athlete who had an impressive debut season last year is shaping up well for the two lap event this year. Shane Aston who has had a great few weekends in combined events competitions finished 7th with a throw of 10.53m in the junior mens shot putt. at the Athlone arena. Seven of our young athletes travelled to Morton Stadium in Santry last Saturday to take part in the Athletics Leinster development squad day.
On Saturday 16 Feb and Sunday 17 Feb the national senior indoor championships will take place in Athlone. Shane Aston and David Tobin are two of our members who are looking forward to taking part. shane will most likely be involved in the high jump and hurdles while David is lined up for the long jump and 60m. On Saturday night Shane Aston will be presented with the Athletics Ireland award for the best senior athlete in Meath during 2012 at a presentation ceremony in Tullamore.
