Hi Everyone,
All Ireland Masters Sunday 21 August
Four Dunboyne athletes made the trip to Tullamore and all four put in medal winning performances. Betty Cunningham won gold in the shot, hammer and discus. Chris Street was also in the medals in the men's throwing events. On the track Michael Cornyn had a season's best time in the 200m and came home in second place. In the 400m, Michael also put in his best run of the year and was only beaten into 2nd place by 5 hundreths of a second. Phelim Glynn put in a fine performance in the 5k that earned him a medal behind Gerry Ryan of Galway in a very competitive over 45 category.
Jog for the Jockeys 5k Naas Racecourse
Karen O'Hanlon won the women's race and Ray Mitchell also had a good run after running the 10mile race in the Phoenix Park the day before.
Tara AC 5K, Friday 26th August 2011
Dunboyne ladies produced an excellent team performance to win the womens team event. Strong runs from Fiona Reid - 4th overall, Emilia Dann 2nd in her category and just back after a months break, Deirdre Fitzsimons - a new PB and Antonette Howlin - another strong run over 5K brought about this terrific win. The race this year had over 430 and the strength of the womens field can be seen from the first 3 women home - Kate O'Neill, Ciara Duncan and Joan Smith - all top class runners. Fiona Reid won the race last year in a slower time than 4th place this year. Well done ladies an excellent nights work.
In the mens race which was won by Colin Costello, the Dunboyne team had to settle for 2nd place. Luke Forde continued his good form on the Meath Roads coming home first junior and 6th overall. Morgan McDonagh was 10th place despite a less than ideal pre race warm up and indeed a battle with his race chip. Paul Gannon ran his first race for the club and come home in 20th place - just under 18mins. Paul is going very well in training and looked very fresh at the finish so a sub 17 5K looks well within his reach. Sean Keany ran an excellent race and came home 4th in the junior race and 34th overall. Sean once again broke 18.30 for 5K. Paul Gorey continued his race comeback running sub 21 minutes. Eddie Reid had an excellent run and won his category - well done Eddie. Ray Mitchell was 2 seconds behind Eddie as his continues to run at least one race every week.
This was the second year of the race and with very good numbers and excellent organization it looks to be a permanent fixture on the Meath calender.
NI Masters Championships, Saturday 27th August 2011
Michael Cornyn was 1st in the 400m and 2nd in the 200m and 800m in the M50 category.
August 28th Olyegate Half Marathon Wexford
Scott Willoughby ran a PB in an excellent time of 96min 43sec. Back in May this year, Scott ran 103min also in Wexford over the same distance - a great improvement. Sub 3.30 for Dublin looks very much on the cards. Mick Foy and Alan McKearnan also had good runs as they prepare for a PB in the Dublin Half Marathon in a couple of weeks time.
