Two Presidents present awards
The Meath Athletics Board held its 2012 awards presentation and dinner at
the Old Darnley Hotel in Athboy last Sunday evening. Over 250 attended the
ceremony which acclaimed athletic performances by young and old in T & F,
road, cross country during the year. The President of Athletics Ireland, Professor Ciaran O Cathain and
the President of Meath Athletics Paddy Reilly made the presentations across
the various categories. The AAI President spoke of the exciting new indoor
arena which he is involved in developing at the Athlone Institute of
Technology. He is optimistic that Usain Bolt will be present at the opening
ceremony in spring 2013. He was full of praise and encouragement for the
volunteers who officiate at events and administer the sport. He complimented
the clubs of county Meath on how they have developed new talent and looks
forward to seeing athletes from the county taking their places on national
squads in the coming years.

In the first race of the day Shane Smyth from Tara Athletic Club put in a
great run to take silver in the boys under 11 race and lead his club team of
Jake cullen, Niall Finnerty and John Cullen to an excellent thrid place in
the inter clubs. The girls under 13 race featured some very strong
individual performance by Meath runners with vicory going to Amy Clarke, Na
Fianna ahead of local Dunboyne athlete Nicola Duffy with Sarah Clarke
(cousin of the winner) occupying forth spot. The Na Fianna club team
finished second in the club competition with Emma Neary and Sara Daly making

very strong county squad to victory in the inter county competition with
club mate Kevin McGrath,10th, Eoin Smyth,12th, Paddy Maher,14th,Alex

In the adult races the best team performance came from the womens team who

The results from Dunboyne and the first days events at Rathdrum auger well
for the prospects of local athletes and some of the teams as they prepare
for the nationals. The county plays host to the AAI Woodies even ages and

MLSP SURVEY REQUEST
Meath is one of three LSPs in Ireland selected to pilot the process that will underpin development of the Irish Sports Council’s new performance evaluation template for LSPs.
This is an important element of the process via which LSPs will be managed and supported moving forward and Knight, Kavanagh & Page – KKP (a specialist sport and leisure management consultancy) is supporting the Irish Sports Council with this process.
Part of this necessitates capturing partners’ and stakeholders’ views with regard to their rating of various aspects of the Partnership’s work and operation. The survey, which should take you no longer than five minutes to complete, is designed to allow you to do this.
We would be very grateful if you would fill it in being as objective as possible: we also realise that you may not be in a position to respond to some of the questions so there is a ‘not applicable’ (N/A) option for each one. We would, however, ask you to provide your view in/for as many of the categories as you can.
The link below takes you straight to KKP’s website so individual responses will neither be revealed to nor discussed with colleagues and staff at the LSP.
The closing time/date for responses is 11.00 (am) on Wednesday 14 November but we would encourage you to complete it as soon as possible to ensure that the response rate for our Partnership is as high as possible.

October 29th - Dublin City Marathon
Well done to all our Athletes who competed in the Dublin City Marathon. Nice running conditions combined with all the hard training over the past year produced some excellent times.
First home from the club was Fintan Crehan in a great time of 3.12, well done Fintan. Antoinette Howlin in her second marathon ran an excellent PB in 3.21, 16 mins quicker than last year. Antoinette looked very comfortable throughout and a sub 3.15 is on the cards for next year. Stephen Doyle ran a steady 3.30 and was followed home by Mick Foy, Scott Willoughby and Claire Ni Fhaircheallaigh. Mick paced Scott to a 3.32 PB which was a minute a mile faster than last year - great run Scott you can pace Mick to a sub 3.15 next year. Claire's 3.32 was also a huge performance for someone who is not in the club very long, well done Claire. Pauline Hilliard ran a steady 3.44, well done Pauline. Alongside Pauline, both Roisin Bell and Martin Geogheganalso ran 3.44 - ready for sub 3.30 next year guys.
Anne Gorman ran a PB in 4.02 and took 44 minutes off last year’s time. Sub 4 next year Anne. Siobhan Carey had an excellent debut, recording 4.08 – sub 4 for you as well next year Siobhan. Annual Awards Night
To All Clubs
The Meath AAI Annual Awards is on Sunday November 18th at 6pm in the Old Darnley Lodge Hotel, Athboy. I have sent the list to a few selected names in each club who can then notify the parents of recipients or recipients (adults) and hopefully the surprise of winning a category can be kept until the evening in question. However if you feel that I should send the list out to all on my email list that can be done at the touch of a button. Tickets for the Awards are the same price as last year €25 for adults and older juveniles and €10 for those juveniles on nuggets & chips or the half portion. Could clubs have some idea of how many might be going for the next county board meeting on Wednesday 7th November.
Regards,
BRENDAN MEADE
The Awards Committee,
Maggie Higgins, Moira Aston, Philip Cogavin, Paddy Joyce and Stephen Ball.
